April 2022 Newsletter

BE A PART OF THE GIANT:

Want to be a part of making Obsidian Giant great? This is the section that will tell you how to do that each month.

Due to the newsletter coming out a bit early this month, we are not announcing the winner of the Review Contest in this edition. We will still be holding the drawing on April 17th and will contact the winner directly via Facebook. We will now announce the winner in the May newsletter.

Everyone still has until April 16th to leave a review on our official Facebook page found here: https://www.facebook.com/ObsidianGiant

Remember: all reviews posted by April 16th will be entered into a random drawing for a $50 gift card usable for OG merchandise, as well as a $50 Visa gift card!!!!!!!!

Reviews = life for both authors and business owners! It is important to us that your experiences are positive, and if they aren’t, we have an opportunity to make them right. Not only that, but it inspires us to create, to get better, and to spend more and more hours working towards perfection.

What we’ve been up to:

Beer and Books was awesome!

Huge thanks go out to the Parkway Theater and Film Lounge for hosting our first ever Beer and Books event!

We had the most amazing time! We held a random drawing for a $25 bar tab for each person who purchased a book, and the prize was won by one of our long-term trivia competitors!!!

We would like to thank the awesome owners, friends who stopped by, and the regulars who not only welcomed us but even supported us in undertaking our first ever live reading from an Obsidian Giant title in a public setting! We will be working on putting some footage together for our soon-to-be-launched YouTube channel. One of those videos will undoubtedly be the amazing Ms. Emma being put on the spot and asked to read a passage from Darkehand!

This will definitely not be the last of these types of events. Talks are ongoing with several locations, including one that may necessitate the event title being changed to “Booze and Books!” On an almost certainly not unrelated note, check out Country Hammer Moonshine – they make some amazing things!

Steel City Con – Part 1:

After a very nerve-wracking couple of weeks of supply chain issues, when we were frightened that Darkehand: Witchblood would not arrive in time, we are happy to announce that we were able to release the title as planned on the first day of con!

The second installment of the Darkehand series, Witchblood has all the elements that made the first book so popular, and it’s perfectly balanced with new challenges and story elements. Along with the man himself, everyone’s favorite kickass kitty is back to do some damage and make us swoon at the cutest thing in this post-apocalyptic landscape. We have already hinted at the cameos on the Obsidian Giant social media accounts, but if you haven’t seen the hints there, this cover is a huge one!

Steel City Con – Part 2: Electric Boogoloo

SCC is just too darn awesome to only have one article about it in this edition of the newsletter. We are really starting to feel like a genuine part of the “Con Family”. Between our booth neighbors, the Steel City Con staff, and the most amazing folks possible all gathered in one place to nerd out and have fun, we can’t say enough positive things about this convention.

Keep an eye out on social media for more photos than I could possibly fit in the newsletter. If you see yourself on any of our socials we would love a comment, share, or tag! If you managed to snap a picture of any of us over the weekend, we would really appreciate being tagged or even just sending us a copy of the pictures! This goes double if you snagged a picture of Jay dressed up as the most muscular Godmer on Brim!!!

Steel City Con – Part 3: Emma talks to celebrities

It was an absolute pleasure and a dream come true to meet Matthew Lewis!!!

After seeing what we thought was the best panel of the weekend – in which he mentioned his passion for reading – we had the opportunity to speak with Matt about Obsidian Giant and our books, and gave him a copy of each one! We cannot even begin to describe what a wonderfully genuine human being he is.

Then, while in line waiting to take the above picture, we started talking about books with the lovely and talented Marisol Nichols! She is a huge fan of fantasy, so of course we needed to make sure she had the full set as well! We also have a few more TV and movie titles to add to the “to watch” list. You can’t help but want to see more of her once you’ve met this woman.

Matt and Marisol, we truly hope you enjoy the books as much as we enjoy publishing them. You have both made our weekend SO magical, and we cannot thank you enough!

What’s coming up next:

Obsidian Giant sits down with JV Hilliard!

JV Hilliard, the up-and-coming author of the Warminster series, published by Dragon Moon Press, will be having a sit down with Emma and Jay next week to talk writing, editing, independent publishing, and all things fantasy!

We have been talking with JV for several months now about his work and ours. The plan for the interview is to release it over the course of several weeks in short, topic-specific segments on both his social media accounts as well as ours here at Obsidian Giant. We are very much looking forward to this. Please check out his writing as soon as you have a chance. Jay has already read the first book three times; it is that good!

His beautiful website with information about his books as well as links to all his social media can be found at https://www.jvhilliard.com/

Sci-Fi Valley Con June 17th-19th

Before we even attended our first Steel City Con as Obsidian Giant, there were people telling us that we would fit in at Sci-Fi Valley Con and that we absolutely NEEDED to attend. We are happy to announce that this June 15th-17th will be our very first Sci-Fi Valley Con!!!!!!!

This will be the first time we have traveled outside of Pittsburgh for a convention, and we are looking forward to meeting a whole new group of people! We will make an announcement on social media once we know where we will be in the vendor hall. Sci-Fi Valley is located at the Blair County Convention Center in Altoona, PA. You can check out the information and Celebrity Guest at their website: https://www.scifivalleycon.com/

Steel City Con: August 12th-14th

Woah, 2 con announcements in one newsletter!? Booth I-3 is once more reserved for your friendly neighborhood giants. Now all we have to do is figure out how to reconfigure the table to fit all these new products that we keep putting out! Speaking of that…

Wait, Who put this Sci-Fi in my Fantasy?

Obsidian Giant is finalizing contract negotiations with a brand new author!! We will be fully introducing him in next month’s newsletter, but wanted to give all of you a head’s up. He will be bringing with him an epic mixture of Science Fiction and Fantasy that will take you on a journey like none other. Emma has been editing for him since before Obsidian Giant was created and we have had our fingers crossed for a while that he would be releasing his debut novel with us. Now that it has been confirmed we can’t wait to introduce you to the newest member of the OG family!!!

Call for Artists!

This is going to be a permanent part of the newsletter for the time being. If you are an artist or know someone who is, please send an email to marketing@obsidiangiant.com. We are working on building relationships with artists for future book covers and design work. If you have a fee schedule, portfolio, and/or website please feel free to send it along as well. With as many as 3 books coming out this year and our desire to expand our sticker line and design library in the future, OG may be your next freelance client!
