October 2022 Newsletter

be a part of the giant

Want to be a part of making Obsidian Giant great? This is the section that will tell you how to do that each month.

Special Edition!!!

Nearly the whole of this edition of the newsletter is at least a little bit “Audience Participation”, so the Be a Part of the Giant section is packed full of participatory goodness!

You choose it, Leah draws it, OG prints it

Most of you know that we’ll be coming out with I Thought These Were Haiku: Volume 2 in April of next year. Other than the utter awesomeness of the natural rhyme that title creates, we want the cover to be on a whole new level. Sticking with the Japanese theme, we’ve curated a short list of mythical creatures for you guys to choose from! While we picked more mainstream ones of the animal type, I strongly urge you to check out the full list of Japanese Mythical Creatures on Wikipedia. I need to start reading more about them because they have everything, from a possessed paper-umbrella monster, to ghosts of monks that don’t really do anything except watch young boys in the bathroom…I feel like there are a lot of questions there.

Anyhow, you can take the survey here:

We would love for everyone who reads this to vote! Getting participation from you guys really drives all of us to keep making the OG dream a reality!!

It isn’t creepy that we want samples of your voice…right?

We are still accepting submissions for voice actors to bring the OG catalogue to life! We’ve had casting calls out at our events as well. We want to make sure we have a wide variety of talent to choose from. If you’ve ever thought of reading audiobooks, this might be your opportunity!

1. Step one is to email us at marketing@obsidiangiant.com.

2. We’ll send you the excerpts.

3. You record yourself reading the excerpts.

4. You send them back to marketing@obsidiangiant.com (or I’ll set up a drop box if files get too large).

5. We review all the submissions and choose the best person for each.

6. You record the whole book and get paid. We’ll also be available as a reference for other publishers and authors you may want to work with. That last part is true even if you aren’t chosen for one of our current books!

You could write the best haiku!!!

Pass it along to your friends/family/co-workers/neighbors/that creepy dude that hangs out by the dumpsters behind your apartment complex. We are now taking submissions for I Thought These Were Haiku, Volume 2!!!!! Emma is once again going to be compiling the best poems submitted with a view to release the sequel at next year’s April Steel City Con!

The categories for Volume 2 are as follows:

· Horror

· Magic

· Sports and Recreation

· Reader Discretion Advised

That last category is bound to be NSFW, and we can’t wait to see what everyone comes up with!!! Everyone should have some great inspiration for the Horror category from the Halloween season!

What is coming up next?

Jay’s got a surprise for us….

Our 5th appearance at Steel City Con is coming up. We can’t wait to see all of you there. For those of you who love when Jay dresses up, there will be an additional surprise….

Jay has reliably informed us that his warblade will be taking a new form. He hasn’t shown anyone – not even Emma – so we’ll be surprised right along with you!!!
