Late-April 2023 Newsletter

First off, apologies for the late newsletter this time around. It’s pretty normal for Leah to not know what day it is, but this time life scrambled her brain enough to ensure she didn’t even know which month it was - she made an April Fool’s joke on May 1st…

What’s been happening!?

The Newest OG Releases have Launched!

We have officially released book 2 of the Bloodsisters saga, Ghost Bitch Chronicles, as well as book 2 of the haiku anthology series, I Thought These Were Haiku, Vol. 2!!!!

As promised, these were launched at the Spring Steel City Con (more on that later), but did you know they’re up on the website to purchase, as well?!?!?!?!?

If you haven’t already picked up your copies, head on over to https://www.obsidiangiant.com/shop and fill up that little shopping bag that’s up in the top right corner looking lonely!

Spring Steel City Con has Come and Gone!

Ahhh, spring. The birds are chirping, the leaves are sprouting, the Pittsburgh rain is never ending…oh, and Steel City Con was back!!!

Got that obligatory EmJay table pic out of the way early this time…

As always, the best part of SCC isn’t the moonshine, or the costumes, or the moonshine, or the celebrities, or the moonshine…it’s getting to see all of you! It’s getting to talk to people, share our love for literature (and poetry), see Jay’s face light up when someone talks about having read his work. We love these interactions more than you can ever know. Thank you for making yet another con great by being you!

Enough of that soppy stuff, though, let’s take a look at our resident Godmer and the delightfully witchy Emma in action!

We got to see Evie! This is the amazing individual who got Brim and Exiles into the library. We received an update on that, and Brim is super popular with the teenaged set! It‘s been taken out dozens of times already, and Exiles has been taken out but not returned…I’ll file that as a compliment! (But seriously, kids, please don’t steal).

A Godmer shines in battle. Dark Helmet in a bunny robe was round 1. Kylo Ren, round 2. But round 3 has to be…

…a flippin’ full-sized Groot! Seriously, even Jay’s axe would have trouble chopping this guy down.

Groot didn’t stand a chance, though. Cap couldn’t even get the drop on him. Jay straight snatched the shield out of the air, even in his civvies!

Sometimes it doesn’t lead to violence, just a bit of posturing and trying to see who has the bigger…axe.

Of course, the Godmer can be friendly as well. Making new friends is what con is about, right?

He’s always friendly with his business partner, though. The mix of witches worked out well. We had Hogwarts, Oz, and Salem represented in one outfit!

Three of the best guys in the world in one picture. The world isn’t ready for this level of awesome…

Emma needed to get in on the awesomeness as well. She can’t pass up the opportunity to take pics with the best guys ever! She even got one with Eddie…*jealous*

Neither Emma nor Jay could pass up a chance to snag a photo with the best of the best, though. Mr. Weidenhamer himself!

While real-life family and friends come first for her, she couldn’t resist snapping a pic with one of her fave TV families as well!

The Godmer needed the last pic, though! Can’t wait to see you guys at the next event!

If you - like us - think that the first and last pictures in this article are amazing, just keep reading…

No Flash Photography

OG was featured in an article by up-and-coming photographer/writer Erica Michel! She specializes in concert and event photography, but decided to do a small profile of OG after taking those (and more) amazing pics of the giants at Steel City Con!

This girl is gooooood. I am also insanely jealous of the sheer volume of shows she goes to! She is available to hire for all your photography needs as well. Even if you don’t think you have photography needs, I assure you that you need to see this photography. Check out all her stuff at noflash.photos!

What’s coming up next?

Halfway to Halloween

This one just kinda jumped into our laps. Thank you, Mr. Eddie, for the heads up!

This isn’t officially an OG event because Emma and Jay can’t make it, but Leah has a table there for her crafty creations and will be bringing OG merchandise as well!

If you need a last-minute Mother’s Day gift, and your mom is cool AF, this is a great opportunity to grab something both unique and enjoyable!

As an added bonus, you get half-price tickets to the Living Dead Museum if you come to the event!

3 Rivers, 3 Trilogies

It fits, right? OG has 3 main trilogies in progress, so we pretty much had to sign up for 3 Rivers Comic Con!

The first weekend in June is our 3RCC debut! There are hundreds of vendors, cosplay, panels, an exclusive beer release, and COSPLAY KARAOKE!!! Yup, cosplay karaoke! If any of you know Emma, you know that if there’s a microphone within 100 feet, she’ll be singing into it. Wonder if she’ll get in trouble for plugging OG before and after each song… Leah and Jay are more excited about the beer, but we might see them on the mic as well.

This is a big one. June 3-4 at the David L Lawrence Convention Center in downtown Pittsburgh. It’s only $25, for the whole weekend!!!!! We have a big space for this one and will be setting up the main OG display alongside some Creative Distractions by Leah. We hope to see you all there for visits, purchasing, and duets. (Emma WILL make someone sing with her).

We Should Just Move Into the David L

It’s been planned for 2 years, and it’s finally happening. OG is making their very first appearance at Momento Con!!!

Pretty much exactly 2 months after 3RCC we will be moving back into the David L Lawrence Convention Center for Momento Con.

10am - 8pm on Saturday, and 10am – 7pm on Sunday, August 5-6. This should be a good one! It’s a bigger space for a smaller convention, so this one should be a fun new experience. Always good to have room to move around!

It looks like half the cast of Supernatural will be there, and Emma’s personal favorite, Timothy Omundson, from Psych! She hasn’t seen him since the 6th season advanced screening at the Ziegfeld Theatre in NYC in 2011!

Be a part of the giant

Want to be a part of making Obsidian Giant great? This is the section that will tell you how to do that each month.

Show Your Love With Reviews on Amazon

I mean, that’s pretty much the gist of it. We would be super appreciative if you would leave reviews for any of the books you have read on Amazon! We haven’t really pushed Amazon as a place to purchase books, but reviews of any kind are the lifeblood of any author. As always, we want to know what you really think. We aren’t looking for fake reviews. Thank you all so much in advance!

Have OG Advertise With You!

OG is looking for opportunities to get the word out about our company and products. We want to be smart with marketing and make sure that the types of people we reach are the ones who will love our stuff! If you know of any Newsletters, Magazines, events that would allow flyers, Playbills, local websites, literature-related websites, etc. where advertising for us would make sense, please let us know!

An example of this would be the play Leah and Eddie were involved with, OG featured in a full-page ad within the Playbill!

Many thanks to Stage Warp Productions for this opportunity!

Audiobooks

Audiobooks are still happening. The giants are still accepting submissions. The good news is we have so much going on between now and the August Steel City Con! The bad news is we probably won’t have much movement on the audiobooks until after that. Lots of writing, drawing, and editing is being done. We will keep submissions open until decisions have been made!

  1. Step one is to email us at marketing@obsidiangiant.com.

  2. We’ll send you the excerpts.

  3. You record yourself reading the excerpts.

  4. You send them back to marketing@obsidiangiant.com (or I’ll set up a drop box if files get too large).

  5. We review all the submissions and choose the best person for each.

  6. You record the whole book and get paid. We’ll also be available as a reference for other publishers and authors you may want to work with. That last part is true even if you aren’t chosen for one of our current books!
