be a part of the giant

Want to be a part of making Obsidian Giant great? This is the section that will tell you how to do that each month.

Do you hear voices in your head as you read?

Are those voices ones that you can bring to life? This is an open call for anyone who thinks they would be good at reading audiobooks! We have a couple of submissions already, but we wouldn’t be doing our due diligence if we didn’t see what all is out there. We also wouldn’t be giving all of you a chance to be a part of the Giant! We’re looking for multiple voices, both male and female. A voice that’s great for Brim might not be what’s needed for Darkehand, so please reach out, even if you think someone else may have applied!!!

Jay has been tasked with choosing excerpts from each book for test readings. Here’s how it’ll work:

  1. Step one is to email us at marketing@obsidiangiant.com.

  2. We’ll then send you the excerpts.

  3. Record yourself reading said excerpts.

  4. Send them back to marketing@obsidiangiant.com (or I will set up a drop box if files get too large).

  5. We review all the submissions and choose the best person for each.

  6. You record the whole book and get paid. We’ll also be available as a reference for other publishers and authors you may want to work with. That last part still stands, even if you aren’t chosen for one of our current books!

what we’ve been up to:

small but mighty

I was a little bit skeptical about Mahoning Valley Con. I hadn’t been to a small con like this in many a year. It turned out to be amazing though!!! There’s always camaraderie at con. People get to let loose and be themselves. At the smaller cons though, it’s even more intense. We all loved it. It was a smaller space, so people could easily remember where we were. There were fewer attendees, but all that meant is that they kept going back to the people they liked to both talk to and buy things!

We met podcasters, TikTokers, writers, artists, cosplayers, everyone under the sun! We got to talk in-depth to several people who you may see us collaborating with or publishing in the not-too-distant future, too. It was a great experience, and now I want to find small cons for every weekend that we aren’t doing a big one!! It was also Jay’s very first time in Ohio. You can make fun of him about that if you want – I did. I mean, he lives less than an hour from the border!

I realize that we’ve posted these on Facebook already, but we’re going to subject you to the con photos again because they’re funnier with individual captions. If you know of any small cons near you that we might want to check out, please let us know!!!

You know we must start with the obligatory Emma and Jay at the table picture!!!

Jay wasn’t the only half-naked guy this time!

Of course the Godmer can pick up our friend Hannah one-handed…

Have to love how absolutely unconcerned he is Emma: 0 Godmer: 1

The following pictures happened when the words “I wonder if you can eat fudge with your mask on?” were spoken:

Godmer in sppppaaaaacccceeeee! I think he might’ve hated me by this point in the day, but R2 was super cute and I had to make Jay get pics!

Who would win?

And finally…the “we’ve made it through con and I was allowed to put my clothes back on” pic:

what’S coming up next?

Let the countdown begin

We’re less than a month away from our first conniversary!!!!!

Steel City Con will always be our home base, and it feels even more special now that we have branched out a bit to other cons. We will be celebrating at the booth, same location as always, so stop by and say hi!!!

I know I’ve said it before, but the celebrities at this one are pretty extreme:

There are about 40 other ones, too! No clue where they’re going to fit everyone. Hopefully, they’ll snake a few of the lines around past our table though, and we’ll have a captive audience!

What did you just call me?

Obsidian Giant has officially renewed its table at Bitchcraft 2022!!!!! This will be on Sunday, September 25, at the David L Lawrence Convention Center in downtown Pittsburgh. Admission is only $12 if purchased through September 1, or $15 at the door. Check it out for yourselves at www.bitchcraftfair.com!

The picture above is just a taste of what goes on! Leah will come up with some more nature-inspired, con-exclusive crafts, and for this special Sunday, we’ll all be wearing black! It’s too bad we can’t bring the cats. As always, we hope to see you there!
